Superb food, fine wine and a tale about sea breezes in Murrumbateman took centre stage on what was an entertaining Lord’s Taverners ACT Degustation and Winemakers Dinner for 2018.

An enthusiastic group of more than 50 people braved a cold June evening (Thursday, 28 June to be precise) to be at Royal Canberra Golf Club for a six-course dinner with specially matched wine from leading local winery Shaw Vineyard Estate, at Murrumbateman.

Shaw’s Chief Winemaker, Graeme Shaw, was on hand to present each wine, telling the audience about the challenges that go into making each variety and his secrets for making a successful drop.

One of Graeme’s more humorous stories was that he claims the team at Shaw have experienced sea breezes at the winery. That’s despite it being several hundred kilometres inland!

Graeme was presented with a Lord’s Taverners ACT tie by committee member Keith Hardy.

Although attendance was lower than last year, we still managed to raise $3563 on the back of those who were able to be there and that a percentage of sales from Shaw wines sold on the night went to the Lord’s Taverners ACT.

The funds raised go towards the work the Lord’s Taverners ACT does supporting young and disadvantaged local athletes.

The next major events on the Lord’s Taverners ACT calendar for 2018 will be an event to accompany our Annual General Meeting on Thursday, 6 September and the traditional PM’s XI Match Dinner on Tuesday, 30 October.

Further information about these events will be available soon.
